Washington State LASER provides professional development for educators and administrators across the state. Below are upcoming opportunities.

 

March 7-9 - Assessing the NGSS: Rethinking Formative and Summative Assessments

Assessing the NGSS: Rethinking Formative and Summative Assessments Part II will take place March 7-9 at the Hilton SeaTac and will focus on:

  • Updating attendees on state assessment plan/actions and assessment system
  • Providing support for teacher leaders to guide others to use 3D formative & summative assessments
  • Developing a deeper understanding of strategies to design formative and summative assessments to meet the needs of all students.
  • Supporting LASER Alliances’ growing understanding of how to effectively manage change

The schedule for the three days will be:

March 7

The cost to attend all three days is $300, which includes meals and materials. You can also book hotel nights for the discounted rate of $165/night through our registration system.

STEM Education Leadership Institute Follow Up Meetings - April 12 (NEW DATE!)

Has your school, district, or region participated in Washington State LASER’s STEM Education Leadership Institute? Renew your team’s commitment to exceptional STEM education by joining us at the 2017 STEM Education Leadership Institute Follow-Up.

At this day-long professional development opportunity you will:

  • share your team’s successes
  • receive help with your challenges from our faculty mentors
  • learn new and equitable ways to engage every student in your school or district with rigorous STEM learning
  • develop a robust understanding of STEM notebooks that provides science, math, and English language arts integration in the classroom

This event is open to all alumni of our 2012 through 2016 STEM Education Leadership Institutes, and we would love to see you there!

Due to weather, the event in Pasco has been rescheduled to Wednesday, April 12. Registration will remain open until March 24.

A registration fee of $125 per person will be charged to provide materials and lunch to all participants during the Follow-Up. Learn more and register below.

2017 STEM Education Leadership Institute - June 26-30

Washington State LASER invites teams to apply to the STEM Education Leadership Institute. This residential program will prepare schools, school districts, and regional leadership teams to launch their science, technology, engineering, and math-focused efforts. After the institute, participants will have the skills to:

  • Use current education research and strategies to effectively integrate STEM and computer science into educational programming.
  • Build students’ abilities, understanding, and skills in science & engineering practices, problem-solving, and technological literacy; address the achievement gap, and prepare for college & career.
  • Meaningfully integrate the Next Generation Science Standards adopted in 2013 as the Washington State Science Standards and other state standards into STEM learning.
