Here are some great websites to help you out during your study of Electric Circuits. Be sure to explore the sites identified as student-friendly before you send your students there.

Student Friendly Websites

The Shocking Truth About Electricity
This website provides additional information, including history and fun facts. It can be used as an extension.

The Inventions of Thomas Edison
This website includes a biography of Thomas Edison and a link to the “History of the Lightbulb.” Students would benefit from visiting this site after Lesson 4 or 8. It also references parallel circuits, which will make more sense to students after Lesson 11.

Teacher-Friendly Websites

How Stuff Works: How Electricity Works
This article provides background information on electricity in an easy to understand way. Also, check out the links on the last page of the article on further information, such as how light bulbs work, how batteries work, etc.

Discovery Education: Curriculum Center-- Electricit
This site has some interesting factoids and project ideas that can be used as extensions.

Tesla: Master of Lightning
This site includes a biography of Nikola Tesla and his contributions to the study of electricity. There is also a link in the resource section to a “Timeline of Electricity” that can be used as a teacher reference throughout the unit.

Electricity-- Electronics
This site provides good background information and several helpful links. The link to “Famous Inventors Involved in the History of Electricity and Electronics” can also be used for students after lessons 4 and 8.
