Students conduct another lever experiment, this time applying the effort in the same position every time to discover what happens to the amount of effort needed as the load moves to different positions on the lever arm.

When effort is applied at a predetermined position, the closer the load is to the fulcrum, the easier the load is to lift.

Materials:

No extra materials are needed for this investigation.

Student Management:

Discuss appropriate usage of science materials. Students should only have the materials necessary for this lesson. All materials should be returned in the condition in which they were distributed and should only be used in the manner for which they were intended.
