Teacher & District Resources
Washington State LASER is committed to providing teachers and school districts with the support necessary to improve science education for all students throughout Washington.
Alliances: The nine Washington State LASER Alliances provide training, guidance, and technical support to districts that are considering participation in LASER, as well as to districts that are already in various stages of implementing the program.
Science Notebooking: Science notebooking is a way for students to record their science observations, communicate their learning, and organize their experimentation. A group of education leaders from across Washington State, led by the North Cascades and Olympic Science Partnership at Western Washington University, has developed and released a web-based resource to help teachers use science notebooks to improve student achievement in both writing and science.
Washington State Logic Model for Professional Development: The purpose of the Logic Model is to provide stakeholders with a road map describing the sequence of related events connecting the need for the planned professional development with the desired results. LASER is taking steps to assist science leaders in Washington State with understanding the Logic Model so that it can guide our work together. If all science professional development is focused on helping teachers use research-based instructional practices, materials, and assessments, then student science learning and achievement should increase.
Science Classroom Observation Protocol: This document contains science classes observation protocol that align with the vision of effective science instruction encouraged by Washington State LASER through the network of Regional Alliances and the network science coordinators. It includes:
