Washington State Leadership and Assistance for Science Education Reform (LASER), CityClub, and The Boeing Company are pleased to invite you to lunch and a forum to discuss the social responsibility of science and science education. What role/responsibility do scientific organizations and scientists have to engage the public in dialogues to better understand current scientific research and it implications for society?  What role/responsibility do scientific organizations and scientists have in shaping science and math education? Bring your own questions to pose to our panel of experts. Panel members are the 2009 awardees of the Science Champions: Science Education Advocate Award.
 
The Science Champions: Science Education Advocate awards go to five individuals, organizations, and project teams who exhibited outstanding advocacy for science education in the state of Washington by promoting the importance of science education among the general public and/or the education system.
 
The 2008-2009 recipients are:

Kim M. Fowler
Senior Research Engineer, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL)

 Edmund O. Schweitzer, III Ph.D.
President, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc.

Northwest Association for Biomedical Research (NWABR)

Seattle Biomedical Research Institute (SBRI)

Spokane Youth Environmental Conference Project Team

 
The five awardees will receive $5,000 each to be awarded to the not-for-profit organization or public education entity of their choice for use in its efforts on behalf of science education. The monetary reward as well as funding for the awards process was generously provided by the Boeing Company.
