Survey Results for STEM Leadership Institute

Washington State LASER conducted a 5 day Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Leadership Institute in June 2012. The event was designed to prepare schools, districts, and regional leadership teams to develop their own common vision of STEM education. The 82 participants were give pre/post surveys. The results are reported here.

Science Partnership Academy Evaluation 2011

The Washington State LASER Science Partnership Academy has brought together science leaders representing all regions of Washington State for the last two years. These leaders, Alliance Directors, ESD Science Coordinators, and representatives from Higher Ed, Washington State MESA, WSTA, and local school districts, have met for a total of 15 days, using the Washington State Logic Model for Professional Development as a cornerstone for more clearly defining what teachers need to know and be able to do in order to support student learning and the application of science.

NACL Washington Evaluation Report

This report evaluates the BSCS National Academy for Curriculum Leadership (NACL), a three-year professional development program for secondary science leadership teams. NACL is based on the core belief that when inquiry-oriented, standards-based instructional materials are implemented in conjunction with an ongoing professional development program designed to transform teachers' thinking and promote collaboration, the combination can contribute to building both a professional learning community in schools and improving student achievement.

ASK-IT Final Report

This is the final report from a two year research project that attempted to determine whether teachers who (1) are trained in ASK Assessment, (2) participate in a PLC, and (3) increase time in science teaching improve their teaching practice and subsequently improve the learning of their students.

What Schools with a Record of Continuous Improvement Do to Improve Student Achievement on the Grade 5 Science WASL

This RMC Corporation report identifies elementary schools that have demonstrated a consistent increase in the percentage of students who meet the science standard on the Washington State Assessment of Student Learning (WASL). It also reports the findings of their staff interviews at those schools that determine what they attribute their success to.

Washington State LASER 2005–2006 Program Evaluation Report

The RMC Corporation collected more than 6000 LASER Professional Development Surveys between September 1, 2000, and June 30, 2006. This report presents an analysis of the professional development participation and the survey data.

2006 LASER Implementation Study Results

In Winter of 2006, RMC Research, in cooperation with the Washington State LASER Alliance and project directors, conducted a follow-up to the research conducted in 2004 using student-level data provided by OSPI. This paper describes the results of this study.

Washington State LASER Evaluation Results - Article for WSTA Journal

In this article for WSTA Journal, the RMC Corporation research shows how well students perform on the 5th grade Science WASL in schools where teachers had significant amounts of professional development compared to schools where teachers experienced little professional development.
