Rod Proctor

Former Chairman, Washington Council of American Electronics Associates

My Vision for Science Education in Washington State:

I believe that the continued growth of Washington's technology based economy is dependent on an education system that has a strong mathematics and science component. It is important for the groups that benefit from the economic vitality of the technology sector of our economy to support mathematics and science education in our schools. I want to help keep this issue in front of the community. I work with the Washington Council of American Electronics Association (AeA) to leverage my efforts in promoting scientific education.

The Washington Council of AeA is one of the strongest advocates for educational opportunities for students pursing careers in technical fields in this state. The Council works directly with OSPI, School Districts, Universities, Corporations, other non-profits and the Legislature to promote the value of mathematics and science in our education system.

Advocacy Efforts:

I have worked for over thirty years to promote K-20 education Initiatives in Washington State. As an electrical engineer who received all my education in Washington State I know the value of mathematics and science in my perusal success. I have been a member of the Washington Council of AeA since the early 1970's and have worked with Executive, Education and Government Affairs Committees to promote the funding of LASER, MESA and Project Lead the Way activities. I have also personally lobbied state legislators and educator to better understand the needs of the technology based companies and research institution for employees with strong math and science skills. I am a strong advocate for economic development through promoting the information and growth of technology based companies in the State of Washington.
